Around Town: I Miss Mexico

One of the benefits of living in a border town is the quick and easy access to an amazing cultural experience just down the road.  Unfortunately, over the past few years, the drug wars have gotten so intense within Mexico that I just haven't felt safe heading down there as often as I used to.  I used to take a couple hour drive and have access to amazing food (lobster!), art and beaches.  Nowadays, trips to Mexico require a bit more advanced planning and definitely more precautions.  I really am looking forward to the day when we can easily hop over the border for some impromptu Pacificos and lobster tacos.  Until then, maybe we can either live vicariously through this couple OR plan a trip to Tulum!

Who wants to go to Hartwood?  Anyone have advice on planning a super safe trip down to the tip of Mexico?

The tours are always led by a few Americans that have made tj their home. Once I get renew my passport I will for sure check it out!

I really want to go for a visit while I'm still living in San Diego. A group of guys from my program went down over spring break for lobster tacos and said they were amazing. Maybe if I went with them I'd feel safer? One of my friends was living in Tijuana for awhile too. I want to at least make the attempt to visit.

I just got back from Las Gaviotas. It's super cheap and we had no issues. I put up some info up here: http://blog.orangeandpark.com/archives/796

I'm so excited I just found your blog. I am a fellow San Diego with a love for Mexico. I actually have a little house south of Rosarito. And funny enough, I am currently planning a trip to Tulum. I will have to put this restaurant on my list!!
